When your roof needs to be repaired, it only makes sense to have it fixed as soon as possible. However, you must know that fast service doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get “good” work out of it. If you encounter an out-of-town roofing team after a storm ravages your area, you might be tempted to hire them right away. Unfortunately, doing so can cost you in the long run.
Ken Morton & Sons LLC, one of the top roofing and siding contractors in the area, shares why hiring out-of-town roofers are not recommended.
Out-of-town roofers will try to get as many clients as possible during their short stay in your area. However, expect them to do rush work so they can move on to the next customer, resulting in workmanship that’s not up to par with what a local roofer provides. Also, they’re quick to move to the next town, which means you can’t reach out to them, especially when you notice more roofing problems showing up.
A reputable roofing contractor carries workers’ compensation and general liability insurance to protect you from being held liable in case of accidental injury or property damage while performing roof repairs or installations. Out-of-state roofers, however, don’t have them, which is a bad thing if any of these untoward incidents do happen.
Since they are from another state, they’re trying to get and complete as many projects as they can. Because of this, they settle on aggressive sales tactics, which may include offering services at extremely low prices and other special deals. They can easily force you to sign a contract with these schemes, but the low price will be at the cost of bad workmanship.
Some out-of-town roofers ask for down payments to pay for materials or labor. But as soon as they receive the cash, they’ll leave and move to the next town. Most of the time, they don’t return at all since they’ve already moved on to the next town.
