Rippled roofs can happen because of damaged sheathing. Shingles are attached to your OSB or plywood sheathing. They will become rippled if the roofer improperly installed the roof structure or the sheathing suffered water damage or wood rot.
If exposed to wet weather or morning dew, the roof underlayment may develop wrinkles and cause the shingles to look rippled. A damp and wrinkled underlayment will affect the appearance of the shingles because it lies directly underneath them. Fortunately, wrinkled underlayment can still protect your interior since it is only a cosmetic issue.
Sometimes, roofing products don’t function as expected. If you discover your roofs rippled due to a manufacturing defect, file a warranty claim and have your roof fixed or replaced. Keep in mind that you can only make a claim if your roof was installed by a qualified roofer.
Your roof can look wavy due to poor installation. In this case, you can ask your roofer to check your shingles and redo the roofing if it’s still within the workmanship warranty period.
A well-ventilated attic can reduce the surface temperature of your roof and prevent condensation under the decking boards. Poor ventilation allows moisture to seep through the decking and shingles, causing them to warp and look wavy.
